FAQ
What is Teacha?
Teacha is an educational therapy service dedicated to helping children with literacy development. Our approach is aligned with the school curriculum to ensure your child connects what they learn at Teacha with their schoolwork, reinforcing their reading, writing, and language skills for a cohesive learning experience.
How do we help?
We provide one-on-one sessions with qualified teachers and use a well-known approach called Multi-sensory Structured Language (MSL). This evidence-based method delivers structured sessions designed to support the development of reading, writing, and language skills. Not only does it improve literacy, but it also boosts your child’s confidence.
What will they learn?
Key areas of focus include phonological awareness, reading fluency, spelling, writing skills, and reading comprehension, all taught in a way that ensures your child fully understands.
Are the teachers at Teacha fully qualified?
Yes. The team at Teacha consists of qualified Early Education, Primary, or Secondary teachers who are also trained in Multi-sensory Structured Language (MSL).
What ages do you work with?
We work with students aged 4 and up, who require additional support with reading and writing, including those with dyslexia and dysgraphia.
What is Early Intervention?
Early intervention involves recognising the signs of learning difficulties early in a child’s development. Once these signs are identified, we encourage families to begin sessions as soon as possible. Starting early provides the best opportunity to address challenges before they develop into significant learning issues.
How often should my child attend Teacha?
We operate on a 10-week term, which may vary based on the NSW Public School calendar. Most children attend once a week, but some may benefit from attending twice weekly, depending on their individual needs.
How long are sessions?
Many children who struggle with reading and writing may also have ADHD or other conditions that can affect their attention span. To accommodate this, our lessons are designed to be short and intensive, lasting 45 minutes, ensuring focused and effective learning.
Do you assess my child?
Yes. We offer a free literacy assessment during your first visit to identify any gaps or areas of difficulty. This helps us create a customised plan that targets your child’s specific needs and ensures that no aspect of their literacy development is overlooked.
What happens after the assessment?
Your child will attend sessions at least once a week. Students benefit from ongoing and regular sessions.
How often will my child’s progress be reassessed?
We continuously monitor your child’s progress through regular diagnostic testing. Additionally, we assess all students formally at the end of Term 2 and Term 4 to evaluate their progress and adjust their learning plans as needed.
Can sessions be conducted at school?
Teacha provides in-person sessions at our clinic, where we can create a controlled environment that allows us to fully tailor the sessions to your child’s specific needs and minimise distractions for optimal learning.
How much does it cost to attend Teacha sessions?
The cost for sessions is the same whether your child is a private client or using NDIS funding. For detailed pricing information, feel free to contact us directly.
What is your cancellation policy?
If your child is unable to attend a session, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance whenever possible.
Please note that the session will still be charged. However, we offer one catch-up session per term for sickness or last-minute cancellations. This can be rescheduled on an alternative day or during the holidays, depending on your teacher’s availability.
For planned absences such as school camps, holidays, or similar commitments, we kindly request at least one week’s notice in writing.
Due to waiting lists and high demand, missed sessions can fill quickly, so we appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain consistent service for all our students.
Do I need to be present during my child’s sessions?
We aim to create a comfortable environment for each child. While parents are welcome to stay, most children find it easier to focus and build independence when working directly with their teacher.
Can I withdraw my child at any time?
If you need to unenroll your child, we ask for two weeks written notice to allow us to accommodate other students who may be on the waiting list.
Do you provide services for NDIS participants?
Yes, Teacha offers services for NDIS participants who are either plan-managed or self-managed. MSL helps develop essential skills such as functional communication and phonological processing, aligning with the goals set under NDIS funding. If you’re eligible, feel free to reach out to us for more information on how we can assist your child.
Does Teacha have a privacy policy?
Yes, Teacha is committed to protecting your privacy. You can view our full Privacy Policy here.
